Jason, great job with the blogs this season. I'm not a fantasy competitor, but I still enjoyed reading your stuff. Keep up the good work.

I think it is alright for Brett Favre to shed some tears. This is one of the few professional football players, check that, any professional sport superstar, to play the game for love alone, not for his multimillions he has made. If I lose something I did everyday for 15 years, and I loved it, I think I might just get a little emotional too. I honestly dont think hes walking away yet. Yes, his post Chicago romping interview wiht retirement on his mind, he would get pretty emotional. Mark this anonymous's comment, Brett Favre will play one more year! He wants to go out on a high note, maybe not a Super Bowl title, but definately a playoff birth. 8-8 was pretty dang close. He'll be back for one more year.

RE: Brett Favre, I've been known to poke fun at his expense, but I do admire his passion for the game. However, don't you think it gets to a point that he's hurting the team by sticking around too long, when the Packers could be drafting/developing/starting a QB of the future? I realize it's not easy to cast off a legend who's so synonymous with one team (ask a Penn State grad about Joe Paterno) ... but there has to come a time when he looks in the mirror and realizes it's time to move on.

RE: The compliments ... I appreciate it. Glad to know folks are reading.

I can see it both ways. As a huge Barry Sanders fan, I was sick when he walked away from the game. I know how painful it can be for true fans, so I can see where Favre retiring could be rough. However, the difference between Barry and Brett is that Barry had a lot more left in his tank than Favre does now. I'm on both sides of the fence.

Jay, will you doing fantasy basketball when football season ends in a few weeks?

JASON BARTOLONE said...

No, I'm afraid my hoops knowledge isn't quite on par with football. I got talked into joining a basketball league for the first time last season and failed miserably.

I will, however, be doing fantasy baseball, which is already right around the corner. And I'll still be dropping some football knowledge in the offseason too. I'm working on an early football top 10 for next year, so stay tuned.

I think Brett Favre will walk away from the game when he cant play it anymore. I dont know how a Hall of Fame quarterback is hurting a team who went from 4-12 to 8-8. I love how every sports write has their own opinion on Brett Favre and they think Favre is going to sit down and listen to them and take what they say a run with it. I have an idea, lets all let Brett Favre decide whether or not he wants to play football anymore. Hes got a couple years left, it is up to him what he wants to do with them.

Amen and Alleluja

Fantasy baseball baby!!! Can't wait. I always make it to the championship week, but can't seem to take it home. Hopefully with the expert advice, I can bring it home this year.

Great players you picked. It seems though that dream teams often perform sort of average. Why do you think? Does the players' chemistry and history together matter more than their individual talent? Or is it about leadership challenges - individual players trying to be stars at the team's expense?

JASON BARTOLONE said...

You're right, most "dream teams" usually do fail (if you've watched the recent U.S. Olympic hoops teams or the Yankees of the past few years you know what I mean) ... often the truly "great" players got that way by having an extreme ego/confidence and a desire to make all the plays themselves. You need role players who are willing to check their ego for the good of the team.

Luckily, for fantasy purposes, you don't have to worry about that kind of stuff. A team of Donovan McNabb, Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson would spontaneously combust in real life but be dominant in the fantasy world.
